I went to Royal Caribbean's private island on a Celebrity cruise ship Here's what surprised me about this visit

coco cay cruise

The overwater cabanas, accommodating up to eight guests, come with attendant service, a private hammock, minibar, and slide into the ocean, priced from $2199 to $3799. You should definitely check out the newly opened Coco Beach Club. You can reserve a day pass for Coco Beach Club ahead of your sailing via Cruise Planner. Perfect Day at CocoCay is Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, and it’s a favorite port among cruisers. With white sand beaches, crystal clear water, and thrilling activities like a waterpark and zip line, visiting the island is truly a perfect way to spend the day.

COCO BEACH CLUB

The South Beach Bar is the perfect spot to grab a drink when you’re hanging out at South Beach. They serve anything from frozen cocktails to beer and seltzers. When you’re at the Oasis Lagoon bar, be ready to get wet, dance, and have a great time. The Oasis Lagoon Bar is a swim-up bar with many in-water seats.

How do you get to and around Perfect Day at CocoCay?

This private island has been an exclusive beach escape for Royal Caribbean cruisers since the 1980s, but the newly updated amenities and facilities put Perfect Day at CocoCay in a league of its own. Even sister line Celebrity Cruises is allowing its passengers to enjoy the island, too. CocoCay has a lot to offer, whether you’re looking for a beach day, to relax by a pool, to party at a swim-up bar, or to visit Thrill Waterpark, there is something for everyone. Furthermore, over the water cabanas are available for rent, which have an amazing view of the ocean, a private slide, and lounge chairs for relaxing. Here you will find a stunning beach, lounge chairs, beach games and activities. Furthermore, you can rent an over the water cabana or day beds directly on the beach.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case onboard, as the majority of cocktails cost anywhere from $12 to $17. If you want to rent a daybed or cabana, you will have to reserve a spot in advance. Prices can vary greatly depending on the type of cabana you book, so check the Cruise Planner for your particular sailing to see current pricing. In addition to beach chairs and umbrellas, there are hammocks, bean bags chairs, and other seating available on the island that is free to use. Most chairs also have a beach umbrella to provide shade, although some chairs do not.

It took me several times visiting CocoCay before I realized what I think is the best way to enjoy the island. Now, I don’t know for sure, but I expect that these prices are so high to help limit the crowds somewhat and reduce lines. After all, if you were to go to a waterpark in Orlando you’d pay around $50-80 per person for an experience that’s much bigger than Thrill Waterpark. Drop us an anchor below to let us know your review of Royal Caribbean’s recently updated private island in the Bahamas. Your key card works as your admission in to the park, so exiting and returning throughout the day was easy. We had no issues finding loungers with umbrellas in this area throughout the day.

Rent a Day Bed at Bay Beach

The cabana base rate is for eight occupants, but you can pay $50 extra per person to add another two guests (for a total of 10). A cabana attendant will bring you drinks (at going rates) and food from the Snack Shack menu, as well as towels during your stay. Note that pricing will vary by cruise and cabana location. Royal Caribbean lists prices per daybed or cabana, not per person. Families tend to stick to the far end of the pool with its sloping entry and gentle fountains. The party crowd gathers around the swim-up bar and its blaring DJ beats.

If you’re wondering about food, well you have several options that you may not realize. During the day there is a buffet served with things like burgers, dogs, and the like. There are also smaller spots called Snack Shacks that serve chicken sandwiches, fries, funnel cake, and more. The cruise line uses dynamic pricing, so there isn’t a set price for admission. Instead, it depends on your specific visit and the prices can be eye-watering. But I’ve heard from passengers that report prices even higher — above $200 per person.

When visiting the Royal Caribbean island, many amenities are already included in your CocoCay cruise fare. CoCo Cay Island (officially Little Stirrup Cay ) is one of Bahamas' Berry Islands, an archipelago of small isles and cays. It is located approx 55 mi (90 km) north of Nassau The island is privately leased and used exclusively by RCG-Royal Caribbean Group-owned ships for cruise tourism purposes. Port Coco Cay cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Coco Cay, Bahamas, Royal Caribbean.

perfect day YOUR WAY

Your fee includes passes for up to six people to the water park. You can invite two more guests for $50 per person, but they will also need to purchase water park day passes individually. The closest main beach on Perfect Day is Chill Island, a 5- to 10-minute walk from the arrivals plaza.

We also did not encounter much waiting for any of the other slides in this tower. There are the standard hamburgers, hot dogs, and grilled chicken that were part of the original “barbecue lunch” on the island. Now, there is also a salad bar, a custom taco stand, and a sandwich section with paninis, steak sandwiches, and Cuban sandwiches. Still, if you are looking for more diversity, there are two huge dining areas to satisfy your appetite. The Chill Grill and Skipper’s Grill are both large buffet style venues with plenty of food offerings. As you cross the bridge into Chill island, you may recognize some of the older buildings and areas.

Your Cabana Attendant will tend to your every need, like bringing you your favorite beachside drinks and delicious bites so you can refuel with ease. You are never far from a beer or frozen cocktail on Perfect Day at CocoCay. Even better, unlike at some other cruise line private islands, your onboard drink package is accepted on the island. Just show your SeaPass with its special sticker and you won't have to pay another cent for your pina coladas or White Claws. If you really want to live it up, go all out with a floating cabana, which Royal Caribbean claims are the first overwater bungalows in the Bahamas. They're set on a dock jutting out from the beach and have similar furnishings to the beach cabanas with the addition of a circular dining table for four and a wet bar.

The island’s new Snack Shacks are exactly the type of venue that we have been looking for on a cruise. A fantastic alternative to the buffet, these strategically placed venues serve a limited menu of hot and fresh light bites. Among our samplings were the Shack Burger, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Fries, and the funnel cake, which were all quite good.

There are endless thrills for kids and teens at Perfect Day at CocoCay, with lifeguards on duty throughout the destination. You can let your teens (14 years and above) loose at the Thrill Waterpark, while younger children will enjoy the waterslides at Splashaway Bay. Splash Summit has six slides, from a free-fall drop to The Twister. Service may be limited on some of the beaches, but you should nonetheless be able to start uploading envy-inducing Instagram snaps as soon as you step ashore.

And when you need a refill, attendants are always on hand to bring bar favorites poolside. Or if it’s time for a bite, next-level noshes are just steps away at the clubhouse. Bring a bit of Bora Bora to your getaway — in the first Overwater Cabanas in The Bahamas. Make yourself at home and soak up ocean views in every direction. Unwind on an overwater hammock for two, then slide into the sea from the serenity of your sanctuary.
